Budget Mothers Day Ideas Request and A Competition!

I am being sent a little gift from the Budget team for Mothers Day. Which is nice.

I always loved Mothers Day, even before I was a Mother to the two most adorable children ever*, there is something just so lovely about being able to say to your Mother;

You know I don't say it enough but I love you, I really appreciate you and you are doing a good job at being my Mum as I haven't lost any limbs/I can count to ten/I can boil an egg/Get dressed on my own.

I always worry about what would happen if I moved away from where my Mum or Mother in law's (yes I have two) lived. Life just wouldn't be the same if I couldn't see them regularly or if I wasn't able to take them a card and gift on Mothers Day. Apparently though I am in the minority, with some figures being released by Budget Car Hire that are actually horrible reading.

  • 69% of Brits have admitted to missing at least one Mother’s Day, while as many as 1 in 5 (20%) have confessed to missing it more than five times.

  • And, when asked why Brits are missing Mother’s Day, almost half (45%) blamed distance as the main reason – with other excuses for not making effort including work commitments (18%) and falling out with their parents (7%).

  • Perhaps most surprisingly, those of us who fail to take the time out to visit our mums on their special day seem to show little or no remorse. With 2 in 3 (68%) admitting they wouldn’t feel guilty for missing the occasion, a sizeable 79% of people went on to say they wouldn’t even try to compensate by sending a card or gift to make it up to their mums.

Wow. I mean I know I don't talk to certain family members and so I could be one of those numbered above for the other parental holiday of the year... but seeing it in black and white just makes me feel so bad for all the Mum's out there who live Mothers Day as just another day. Someone at Budget Car Hire must of thought the same thing as they have decided to crowd source (from comments) the best tips for Mother's Day with money saving ideas. The best tip will win a weekend of free car hire (Friday to Sunday) and you could use it to go and visit with your Mum... They are also offering a 10% discount if you pre-book a rental car this Spring.

To get you in the mood, here are a few of my Top Tips;

  • Take a photo of you together and put it in a frame
  • Find a record (you remember those right?) that means something to you both in a Charity Shop
  • Make a compilation tape of songs your Mum loves
  • Surprise her by making breakfast in bed
  • Make something for her, (a home made card, a cake) as she will love it
  • Do something you know she hates like the dishes, cleaning the bin, hoovering the cat...

Make sure you get your tips in before Friday at 3pm as that is when I am closing the competition (of course you can still comment after this, you just won't win!). Please do me a favour and make sure you include the words "Family Fun" so that my spam filter doesn't eat you!

*Yes your children are just as adorable
