The November Food Challenge!

Flyfour, the children and I were having a family chat, about nothing in particular just some family fun and during a long car journey, when we started a conversation about our diet. We all talked a little about how we could reduce our monthly shopping bill, our monthly cost for school lunches or food when we aren't at home, be more mindful about what we were eating when we weren't at home and doing a couple of little things that we hoped would be better for our health. Little things like eating less meat and processed foods, eating more fish and vegetables and of course a lot more exercise!

The A Mother's Ramblings Family having some fun!

It wasn't that we needed to reduce our shopping bill, it wasn't really that we even needed to eat more vegetables or less meat. It was just that we wanted to be a little more mindful about it all. I think I said something about how we could do a food challenge for November as that could help reduce our food bill a little, help us to be a little more mindful about what we were eating and would be fun and Flyfour thought it sounded like a great idea, and so did the children! The question was what would the challenge be? We talked about a few things that we all liked and then we decided it was obvious it had to be Sandwiches for our evening meals for the challenge!

We started listing a few of our favourite sandwiches, quite loose on the definition of what a sandwich was, I mean there was a Salad on the list, but we realised that a lot of our favourite dishes are bread-based! Here are just a few of our ideas.

Beans on Toast
Cheese Toasties and Soup
Breakfast Muffins
Bacon Rolls
Sloppy Joes
BBQ Chicken Burgers
Chicken and Salad Wraps
Smoked Salmon Bagels
Panzanella
Fish Finger Sandwiches
Tuna Melts
Bread Pudding
Fondue
Baguette Pizza
French Onion Soup
Meatloaf Sandwiches
Sandwich Sushi

We are going to pair up most of the sandwiches with a side salad or raw vegetables or sneak in extra vegetables to the sandwich/wrap/whatever bread-based dish it is that we are eating. I'm so excited and can't wait to see what savings we make and what dishes we can come up with!

Oh and Friday this week?

We're having Chinese style duck wraps for our evening meal. I'm so excited!
